Volunteers can be as young as 16 years old. High school and college students can fulfill their community service requirements. However, there is a required minimum time commitment of 40 hours in a three-month period. The majority of adult (18 years and older) volunteer positions require a long-term time commitment of six months to one year, with a minimum of one four-hour shift per week. Short-term seasonal and/or project-based volunteer positions are available periodically to qualified applicants.

Once you have submitted your information, the department will review it and contact you to set up a date and time for an interview. You can download an application form here, for adults, or here, for teens.

Please note: Volunteers do not take the place of salaried staff. Volunteer service is not intended in any way to lead to paid employment. Applying to the volunteer program does not automatically guarantee acceptance into the program. Because of the number of applications we receive, we are only able to contact those applicants who are qualified for the positions we are recruiting for. No phone calls or "drop-ins" please.
