Patient Safety Receives “A” Grade

The Leapfrog Group recently released patient safety scores for Illinois hospitals.

Oak Park, IL (June 27, 2012) — Rush Oak Park Hospital has received a top “A” grade for patient safety in a nationwide evaluation of hospitals. The study was conducted by the Leapfrog Group, a national not-for-profit organization that promotes health care safety and quality improvement. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Score represents Rush Oak Park Hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from medical and medication errors, infections and injuries.

The Leapfrog Group evaluated 2,652 hospitals nationwide, including 114 of the 177 in Illinois (specialty hospitals were not included). The scores were calculated under the guidance of the Leapfrog Group’s blue ribbon expert panel using 26 measures of publicly available data.

“For patient care to be effective, it must first and foremost be safe,” said Rush Oak Park Hospital President and CEO Bruce Elegant. “The A grade is an important affirmation of the outstanding job done by the people who work at Rush Oak Park Hospital in providing safe care for our patients.”
