Radiation Therapy Tests & Treatments

The following tests and treatments are some of the most common offered by a radiation therapist. A radiation therapist can offer many other advanced tests and treatments for a wide range of medical problems. Please call (708) 660-INFO (4636) if you have questions about specific tests or treatments not listed here.

  • 3-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT): Delivers radiation to precisely shaped target areas using 3D computer imaging.
  • 2-dimensional photon therapy (conventional radiation therapy): Uses x-rays to determine best position for radiation beams.
  • Intensity-modulated radiation therapy: (IMRT): Allows different areas of a single tumor and nearby tissues to get different levels of radiation using tiny-beam shaping devices called collimators.
  • Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT): Uses real-time computer imaging to adjust radiation doses during treatment depending on a tumor’s response.
