Stroke Care

Specialized stroke care, close to home

FAST, expert care for stroke can make the difference between life and death or disability: If you notice Face drooping, Arm weakness or Speech difficulty, it’s Time to call 9-1-1.

The Rush Stroke Program at Rush Oak Park Hospital, certified by the Joint Commission as a primary stroke center, provides award-winning primary acute care for stroke and related conditions. We also provide follow-up care for people who are living with the effects of stroke, including personalized plans to help prevent stroke recurrence.

Our program has earned two major awards from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association: the Get With The Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for our commitment to ensuring that patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to the latest scientific evidence, and the Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Award for reducing time to treatment.

We also speed treatment to patients with the Rush Mobile Stroke Unit, based at Rush Oak Park Hospital. In participating near west suburbs of Chicago, a 9-1-1 call about any symptom of stroke triggers dispatch (when available) of this state-of-the-art ambulance that brings immediate care straight to the patient.

The Rush Stroke Program team at Rush Oak Park Hospital works closely with the Rush Stroke Program experts at Rush’s Chicago campus. If you receive emergency stroke care at Rush Oak Park Hospital, you may receive specialized follow-up care at Rush University Medical Center — and can then return to Rush Oak Park Hospital for ongoing post-stroke care and services.
